How to Choose Your Family Photoshoot Location | Eickhoff Photography | Seattle Family Photos
When you book a family photo session with Eickhoff Photography, we will talk through all of the details, the who, when, what, and where. I have several suggestions for where photos can be taken and I love exploring new places too! Ultimately, choosing a location depends on the look and feel you want for your photos. Here are some things to consider when we're selecting your photoshoot location.
1) What vibe do you want for your photos?
Do you love trees, mountains, and nature? We can find a park with the mountain/forest feel or a beach with a view of the olympics. There are also a few good locations for catching Rainier in the background (assuming the mountain cooperates ;) ).
Do you want to play in the sand and water with your kids? or stroll a rocky shoreline for the ultimate PNW beach feel?
Are you more urban? Are you interested in graffiti backdrops, gritty alleys, brick walls, and metal stairs? There are some fun options for urban photos around the Seattle area.
Are you wanting to run and play in the snow, catch the spring flowers, settle in the summer grasses, or wrap up in a scarf in the fall colors?
Or do you have a family tradition of portraits taken in a studio setting and need photos that will fit with the photos already on your walls?
Once you've selected a general feel for your photos, it is easier to pick a location that will meet the vibe you want.
2) Colors that fit your home
Next, think about where you might want to display your family photos. What is the style and decor of that space? Consider the colors and feel of the location to ensure that they coordinate well with your home. Also remember to consider the colors of your decor when choosing outfits for your family. 3) Narrow down the options
Now, let's figure out a couple of specific locations for you and your family. Keeping in mind the vibe and colors that you'd like in your photos,
Do you have any parks or buildings that are special to your family? Having a personal connection to the location can add to the joy you feel when looking at your photos.
Is there someplace you've always wanted to explore? Creating new memories while exploring a new place can make family photos feel like an adventure.
4) What photos are most important to you?
Usually we can capture several different types of photos in a single location, but different locations each have their special bonuses too. Consider the photos that are most important to you so that we make sure we select a location which will allow us to capture those photos. For instance, if a new family silhouette is at the top of your list, I have some favorite spots for this and we will plan accordingly to make sure the location can achieve this look in addition to all of your beautiful, connected portraits.
