Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of photographer are you?

I am a Lifestyle photographer specializing in family, seniors, and newborn photography who uses primarily natural light to capture portraits of the best people in your life. I love to capture genuine expressions with interactions between loved ones.

How long will my session be?

Family sessions are usually about 45-60 minutes and move fairly quickly to keep everyone engaged.

Newborn sessions are usually 1.5-2 hours to allow time for breaks so that baby can be fed, changed and cared for.

Senior Session length will be determined by the type of session you select. Check out senior session options here.

Where will my Family session be held?

Family sessions are typically held in your home or at an outdoor location, often at a park. We also have a studio option available for an additional fee. We will choose a location together and I am happy to provide suggestions. However, I love exploring new locations and want your location to reflect your family's personality, so if you have a favorite spot in mind, let me know.

Where will my newborn session be held?

Newborn sessions are typically held in the comfort of your home or at a local park near your home. I will sometimes complete a session with one large window that lets in good natural light; this is often in the master bedroom or the nursery. If your home does not have great window light, we can add some auxiliary lighting to help brighten the space. If the weather is good, we can consider an outdoor location for your newborn photo session.

Where will my Senior session be held?

Senior sessions are typically held at an outdoor location, often at a park or in an urban setting. We also have a studio option available for an additional fee. We will choose a location together and I am happy to provide suggestions. However, I love exploring new locations and want your location to reflect your senior’s personality, so if you have a favorite spot in mind, let me know. Given the condensed nature of the essential senior session, it is limited to a few specific locations near Shoreline, WA (a forest/semi urban location, a park location with grasses and flowers, and a studio location).

What should I wear?

You and your family should wear clothes that are comfortable and fit your personality. Outfits that coordinate colors without matching exactly provide a natural look while visually tying your family together. For more suggestions regarding clothing, check out this article on what to wear for your photo session. Feel free to reach out if you’d like to discuss styling options or if you’d like to run your outfits by me prior to your session.

What will my session be like?

Your session will be fun and relaxed. I want you and your family to enjoy playing together. In order to capture your family engaging with one another, I am going to ask you often to not look at the camera, but to look at each other as this is the best way to see the connection between all of you. We will, of course, take a few photos with everyone looking at the camera, but it’s okay (and encouraged) for you and the kids to not look directly at me.

WHen is the best time of year for my photo session?

This depends on what kind of photos you are wanting for your session. If you are interested in flowers, spring or early to mid summer (April through early August) are great options. If you’d like tall grasses, late summer and early fall is best. If you’d like fall colors, October is usually the best time. If you want warmth and golden sun, summer is the best option (June through September) though sunset is later. If you’re looking for an evergreen forest or urban look, we can do any time of the year, though typically April through October will give us the best weather for outdoor photos.

Indoor photos can be done anytime of the year. I love photographing your family in your own space! If you are interested in having photos taken in your home I can accommodate this year round. In home photos are a great option for maternity, newborn, and family sessions.

How far out are you booked?

I open my schedule in December/January for the following year and occasionally add a few dates throughout the year. Fall gets extremely busy, so if you’re looking for more flexibility in your choices, spring and summer can be easier options. Please contact me for current availability.

Will I get the digital photos from my session?

Yes! Unless otherwise noted (i.e. mini sessions and “essential Senior session”), your session is all inclusive. I love so many of the photos from my sessions that I have a hard time choosing just a few, I don't want you to have to choose either. The session fee includes access to a digital gallery of the edited high resolution photos from your session. If you love all the photos from your Mini session or “Essential Senior session” you have the option to upgrade to your full album following your session, if desired. You can also print photos directly through your online gallery.

How can I order prints and products from you?

For all portrait sessions, you can order prints and products directly from your online gallery. Ordering options include framed portraits, canvases, metal prints, announcement cards, holiday cards, albums, loose prints and more. Orders are processed by professional quality printers and will be shipped directly to your home.
